Pillar Point Harbor West Shoreline Trail AG; 1.2 mile;v?         INFO
[Princeton, San Mateo County]

Princeton is just north of Half Moon Bay on Highway 1. I haven't been there, but Liz Henry, who uses a manual chair and crutches, has, and she reports:

The trail is about a mile long, very level, some bits of gravel and potholes but on the whole well maintained. It goes past a little marsh and then the Princeton-by-the-Sea harbor. There are sea birds and sometimes seals in the harbor.

At the end of the trail you reach the end of the harbor's breakwater and can see the ocean, at Mavericks, a famous surfing spot. The trail dead ends there, and there is a little sea wall. I can get out with crutches and haul myself onto the beach, but the beach is not at all accessible to people using chairs.

The parking lot gets crowded on weekends, but I have always found a spot.

Bonnie Lewkowicz mentions the Pillar Point trail in her Coastal Conservancy Wheelchair Rider's Guide also. She says there is an accessible parking spot marked in the parking lot, and confirms that a wheelchair accessible portapotty is provided.

From Highway 1, three miles north of Half Moon Bay, turn west at the traffic light onto Capistrano Road. Drive about 0.3 mile, past the harbor entrance, on Capistrano, then turn left onto Prospect Way. Turn left onto Broadway, right onto Princeton. After about 0.4 mile, turn right onto West Point Avenue. Drive about 0.6 mile to the parking lot on the left at the end of the road, before the entrance to the Air Force station.

SAM Trans Bus 17 travels Highway 1 and would take you to Princeton within a couple of miles of this trailhead.
